Yordanys Torres
Yordanys Torres began his karate career at age eight as a student of the Nilo Cinta Alvarez Dojo in Havana, Cuba. He practiced Shotokan style of karate under the direction of sensei Pedro Falcon for nine years until becoming a member of the Cuban National Karate Team in 1998. For nine years he trained as member and later captain for his country’s team, and was the national karate champion in the 70kg weight category from 1999 until he left Cuba in 2007. Torres often traveled overseas as a Cuban participant in various international competitions, winning a total of five gold medals, four silver medals, and one bronze medal for his country.
Torres received his first dan black belt level in both Shitoryu and Shotokan Karate in 1998. He also earned a 4th dan Federation grade black belt in 2006.
In early 2007 Torres decided to leave Cuba and has now settled in Queens, New York. Since arriving in the United States he has taught karate as an instructor to both children and adults at various schools in New York City. He is currently the main karate instructor at Kaze Arashi Ryu Dojo located in Woodside, Queens.
